My Pet Pic and other Ramblings

I finally got Hit to take a photo of me and one of our "pets" for a Kidzchurch competition at Riverview church.  Apparently our heads will get chopped off and the kids have to match the pet to the volunteer.  So our lucky chooks got chased around the backyard for 5 minutes or more until I caught one.

Kalyani was very funny this afternoon.  She is using a lot more words lately and a new one she was saying today was Hot.  She was sure she was feeling hot as she get telling me and really did need to take her jacket off even though the temperature felt very cold to me.  Then she insisted that I was feeling hot too and attempted to take my jacket off.  All my exaggerated shivering did not convince her.  What a strong personality she has!

I am looking forward to catching up with my good friend Dawn this week.  Hopefully we will be able to do some scrapbooking.  Yeh!  Mostly I scrap on my own though occasionally I go to Hit for some creative advice when I get stuck.  Actually the other day I even thought of letting Kalyani loose on my cardstock when I was really stuck on how to scrap some particular photos.  Maybe some drawing, finger painting, some stickers etc might inspire me.  However I didn't have the courage to go through with that idea.  What if I never get my scrapbooking space back from Kalyani again??

Oh I am making abit of progress with my recovering chairs project.  On the weekend I got the foam for the seats cut so now we just have to staple all the fabric on and put them all back together.  Hopefully it will be finished in a week or two.  I realised that they have been sitting there literally for a few months now.

... and the fish!

Kalyani loovesssss fish at the moment.  Yesterday she got some fish stickers in the mail from Aunty Ju and that simply made her day.  Thanks heaps!

Kings Park again!

Great to finally meet up with Delia and Judy and kids at Kings Park today.  Its been months since we have seen each other.  We had a good chat and Ari, Josiah and Kalyani loved playing on all the equipment.

Our Sunday Afternoon Walk

A few pics from our walk this afternoon.  Today it was a short walk because my back has been quite bad the last couple of days so I wasn't up to much.   But Hit and I wanted to check out the river near our house.  There has been so much rain this past week, well for Perth anyway, and we wanted to see how much it had overflown its banks.

I love this photo of Kalyani.  Hit was helping her stand on a wooden pole and she was jumping up and down shouting doey, doey.  Not sure what that means but it makes me smile anyway!

National Treasure

That's the movie Hit and I saw Sunday night after Kalyani was in bed on the new video projector.  Soooooo much better than the Bollywood movie Suno Sasurjee  we saw the previous night.  Very lame slap stick humour!

National Treasure 2 was actually pretty good and it got thinking about how come people don't find treasure like a city of gold today.  And deep questions like why isn't there such amazing treasure hidden in Mt Rushmore in the US?  Hmm... I love the idea of the treasure hunt, of figuring out the clues, the puzzles and how to open secret doors etc.  But most treasure people find today is never as amazing as what they show in the movies and the process is a lot longer, tedious and detailed.  Not the sort of treasure hunt I long to be a part of!

Maybe the treasure we are meant to find is not that which is made of metal or rock or wood or human hands... I read this verse today.

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.                                                                                Isaiah 33:6

Our first Saturday off together!!

As Hit wasn't working this past Sat we were all able to go along to Sarah's birthday party at HJs  in Karrinyup.  Though I think Kalyani had the best time - up and down the slides a dozen times or more.

Timothy and Sarah walking to HJs from Sarah's house.  I don't know how people go shopping at Karrinyup.  There was no parking for a mile around.  Luckily these guys live walking distance from where we needed to go. Sarah blowing out her candles (below) and Kalyani looking very concerned about not getting a piece of cake.  She ended up having two pieces!!

Playtime on the play equipment and then back home for some rest time!

This is my latest project- recovering this set of chairs I got for $20.  I know what a bargain.  Its taking me a while though to finish it.

I Have Been Scrapbooking!

Yep I finally got some inspiration this past week and these are the LOs I completed.  All using photos taken around Oct/ Nov last year.  The last two I used paint on.  Boy was it hard finding something to do the blue squares with on the father LO.  It seems like everything in our kitchen is round or too big.  So I used the lid of an ink pad in the end.

Around Our Neighbourhood

There's a house that we sometimes pass our walks which has bird seed out for the local birds- mainly cockatoos.

Congratulations!!

Wow- we got to celebrate Hit's birthday yesterday.  Michelle and Chris and baby Adele came over for dinner and we had one of Hit's favourite Aussie dishes, lasagne.  Then I organised to have a selection of Indian sweets for desert, barfee, ladoos and gulab jamuns.  Yummy and very sugary!   Hit got given on his birthday a video projector from his work.  Cool lots of movie nights at our house!  Bring your own popcorn peoples.

And also a very happy birthday to the beautful Miss Sarah who turned 5 yesterday.

Some good news- Hit has been given Saturdays off which means he'll have an actual weekend.  I'm looking forward to it and hopefully we will be a little bit less tired by the time Sunday comes around.

I started on a some more scrapbooking the other night but I need to find the time to finish it.  I solved the lack of inspiration by getting a whole lot of photos printed.  Since it normally takes me heaps of time to do anything my creative strategy was to complete a page as quickly as possible and not think so much about it.  Hmm- sort of worked! :)  Have to put them up here soon...

NB  This post is thanks to the Wiggles who have been keeping Kalyani occupied while I write.  We share the computer screen.

A New Day!

We (Kal and I) got up to Kings Park this morning to find out that the friends we were meeting up with couldn't make it.  Kalyani still had a great time playing on everything and then a very special treat.  I stopped at Hit's work on the way home and we got to have lunch together.

You may have noticed that I haven't had a lot of layouts shown on my blog lately.  That's because I we have been out a lot this past week and haven't had a lot of time.  Plus my scrapbooking area is in one of the coldest parts of the house and so its not very motivating to be there at night.  Brrr!!

Some cool news- I got a participation prize from Scrap of Faith for submitting a layout (actually my first to be submitted) for one of their monthly challenges.  Check out their challenges on the blog!  So will have to do some more pages soon...

The Secret of Contentment

OK I think God is trying to teach me something about contentment. Sat night I was talking with gorgeous Angie and she mentioned learning to be content in her life. That struck a cord with me and so Sunday morning I was thinking about it. Usually in the morning I try and read something helpful for the day and I was tossing up reading the verses in Philippians where Paul writes about being content in every situation or reading my devotion for the day. I chose the devotion... AND IT HAPPENED TO BE ON THE TOPIC OF CONTENTMENT!!!

"If you are not happy with what you have, you will never be satisfied with what you want." Emily Barnes

I find it very amazing when God gets my attention about something in such a clear way. This is where I am at in the sense that there are several things I want to be different in my life right now. I do feel like this is a time of waiting, a time of preparation for what I am to be doing in the future. Also that it is right to keep on asking and keep on seeking... But I am challenged with hope to focus on "learning the secret of contentment" as Paul says. Practically I think it means be thankful in the circumstances I find myself in whether change happens soon or not. Am I able to be content whether I have plenty or whether I have little? I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

A better Week

Yes this week has been a lot better than the last couple of weeks. I am not sure exactly why but I woke up Sunday morning and the heaviness and depression that has been following me round was gone. I have just been in a better place to relate to people, plan a few things for the immediate future and relate with Kalyani. Ok that's a huge one! She seems to bounce (and some days that's literally) from the moment she wakes up to when she goes to bed at night. So much energy and lately there are been a lot more battles. Ok I know what am I to expect with two very strong parents but she knows what she wants all the time and gets very upset when she can't get it. But when I am in a better place emotionally I can be smarter about the choices I offer her or don't and be more preventative.

This close to our house!!

Kalyani, Hit and I went for a short walk this past Sunday afternoon to explore a new (well for us) section of the river close to our house. It is just amazing what great outdoor places there are in this area. Its a mix of urban and bush!
