Encouragement

Do you ever have days when circumstances look so contrary to the truths that God has been showing you?  The last couple of days have been like that for me.  The following verses have been an encouragement to me in this place.

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour.  The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.
Habakkuk 3:17-19

In Their Youth

We got to catch up with my Dad on the weekend and he gave us a copy of photos he has been scanning from his parents' photo albums.  Apparently they have a lot.  It was good timing because I have been planning to do a LO on my Grandad who passed away just over a year ago.  It gives me a different perspective on my grandparents'
lives seeing photos of them in their youth.

Who loves scrabble?

We got to go down to Mandurah and spend ANZAC day with some good friends of ours.  While we were there we had to play a few games of scrabble.  The Raos won out in the first game so there had to be a re-match and congrats to Craigh who just managed to beat everyone else. That definately means it should be best of 3- hey guys!

Sunshine on a rainy day!

Hit, Kalyani and I got to spend the morning at Sticky Beak Cafe playground, Kings Park.  Its a great playground for young kids and this morning despite it being school holidays we had the place pretty much to ourselves.  How come?  It was that "shower or two" the weather bureau forecasted.  It actually did rain on the way there but singing a few sunshine songs in the car must have helped!  We had a enjoyable morning and we got to catch up with Delia and
Josiah and Judy and Ari.

Delia and Josiah.  The kids had a great time with the door on the cubby house- opening and closing it.

Ari enjoying playing with the water.

Motherhood

Here's my latest page which is on a photo of Kalyani and I taken around Mother's Day last year.  She was about 8 1/2 months old there.

Toilet Training News

Well big news for us parents- Kalyani did something in the toilet for the first time this evening before her bath.  Mum and Dad were very proud of her and there was lots of clapping and praise.  Its kind of funny that such a small event could feel like such a big thing.  We haven't started toilet training full on yet.  Its more that we'll put her on when she indicates that she wants to sit on there.  Maybe she is getting the idea which would be great.

Trying on her hat that she helped make with glitter and glue at family day care.

I am thankful...

I am thankful for... having such a delightful daughter who I am proud of and love spending time with.  I am thankful for... being able to live out the values I believe in, in regards to work and family.  I am thankful for... such gracious and generous friends who offer me wisdom and encouragement when I need it.  I thankful for... the faithfulness of my husband in loving me even more today than when we first met.  I am thankful for my Father's friendship- He walks with me through every trial.

This past week I have been struggling with trusting in God's goodness and faithfulness to me.  Especially in regards to what work I am doing and our finances.  I had my plan and it hasn't worked out the way I had expected and wanted it to.  Nothing has changed but I choose today to be thankful in this place and trust that my Dad is still in control and involved in my life.  And now I am open to seeing that the direction my life takes may be even better than I could have worked out for myself. Regardless there are heaps of things to be thankful for!!

On the Mend

Here are the gorgeous flowers I got given for my birthday from work.  The cool thing was that we had only just changed florists and I was the first person to receive a bouquet from the new florist.  Everyone was suitably impressed!  Check them out at www.behappyflowers.com.au

Overall I had a lovely birthday even though I did feel pretty sick.  Thanks everyone who made the day special for me! Hit did heaps to spoil me and I really appreciate it.  This week I am finally feeling a lot better and not coughing so much.  Kalyani seems back to her energetic self and is eating normally again.  That meant a second helping of cereal this morning.

Sunday afternoon we went down to the Gosnells Railway Markets and then to Pioneer Park.  Kalyani thought the park was the best bit.  Though she was in awe of all the other kids and spent a lot of time checking out what was happening around her.  Hit and I were surprised by how multicultural the group of kids that were playing there were.  You could almost think Gosnells was a pretty diverse place.

Home Alone

I'm home alone tonight- well Kalyani is here but she is in bed asleep.  I've caught another nasty virus so I wasn't feeling up to going to connect group tonight.  Hit has gone and here's hoping they all enjoy my birthday cake.  Yep I turn 32 tomorrow.  I will be working but I am catching up with a friend for lunch.  Thanks Miriam for your early birthday wishes.  Your card was such an encouragement.  Thanks Mum for the phone call tonight.

Kalyani and I did have a good day though despite how lousy I was feeling.  Thanks Hit for praying for us this morning.  Thankyou God for your faithfulness!  Our daughter (she's almost 19 1/2 months Sulekha- born 31st Aug 06) is a treasure.  This morning she got some books and I got some scrapbooking magazines and we lay on the bed with her special pink rug over us and read together. How I appreciate those quieter moments.

A thought from my Happy Birthday Therapy book by Lisa Engelhardt... Celebrate the cycles of your life- the bringing forth, the flowering in fullness, the pruning back, the lying dormant.  Give yourself gracefully to the season of now.

Weekend Cybercrop

Here are the layouts I completed on the weekend.  The first is on Hit's birthday last year and for a challenge I used black & white photos.

This page uses photos taken at the reception at my cousins wedding in June 07.

I finally finished this page- yeh I know its very pink!  Kalyani is almost 12 months in this and its one of the few photos I have of her and I.

Must Love Dogs

We went over to my brother and sister-in-law's house this afternoon and their dog Dante (who's a full grown puppy) decided to get into a dirty pool of water.  I just managed to get away without having muddy water shaken on me as I was taking photos.  However the main reason for going over there was to play table tennis.  I even got to have a few turns... I think my table tennis skills are starting to improve with all Hit's coaching. :) Hit was enjoying playing so much that when I asked him if he wanted to take a break I was told "Why would I take a break from having fun?".  Good point but who hasn't heard their parents tell them, "I think you have had enough fun".  Now how silly is that!

Kalyani thought it was great fun seeing a real dog and lots of their birds.  Two words she definately knows how to say, "dog" and "bird".

I caught their two very fluffy bantams in conversation with one another.  "Do you think I should go after the ball dear?"

Doodling

What  is it about doodling?  I've completed my first page for the cybercrop tonight.  This challenge had to be a page including stamping and doodling.  Me - once I start doodling I find it hard to stop.  I could easily fill a whole page that way not that would necessarily look very good.  I am one of those people who ends up with a whole page of doodling while talking to someone on the phone or listening to a sermon or a lecture or writing a shopping list or...   Just let me scribble!

Kalyani and I got to go storytime this morning at our local library.  The lady who takes it does an excellent job I think keeping the attention of some many young kids.  I love seeing the excitement of some of the kids as they recognise the subjects in the stories.  Kalyani is more interested at this point in the other people there than she is in the story.  Though she loves reading books when she is at home on her own.  Afterwards we went op shopping and I got a few bargains.  Poor Hit is in bed early again tonight as he is fighting off another cold.

New scrapbooking pages

I finally finished the second page about my Pop’s boat (he built it himself) and going out sailing on it. So here they are.

Ok anyone not interested in scrapbooking just skip to the next pic. This page I did about my 31st birthday and I just took excerpts from journal to summarise what was going on in my life at that point. I really enjoyed making it especially after I had lousy day. And I tried a few new techniques – I stapled the lace to the page, I used bubble wrap to make imprints with paint on the journaling section. Hit thought that looked really messy I reckon its being creative. I actually followed a sketch found at www.pagemaps.com which made it heaps easier to put together.

I’m looking forward to this weekend and having a go at the challenges on the cybercrop at www.scrapbookingtop50.com.au  Dawn and I did it last month and I found it heaps of fun and very inspiring. I surprised myself by completing a couple of pages even though I was in a lot of pain with my back. So who knows what will come out of this weekend?

Daylight Saving

How's everyone finding the change from daylight saving time?  I'm finding it a little bit strange actually- it seems dark so much earlier and the last couple of nights we have ended eating earlier.  Generally I am pro-daylight saving but I do think it would be easier if it finished at the end of Feb.

Oh we are probably the only ones to forget to change our clocks back Sat night.  Like last year we rocked up to church 45min early!!  Only 45min because we were running 15min late.  I think the guy on Kidz church for the Tiny tots group thought I was really funny when I tried to put Kalyani in.  So we went next door to the park area and enjoyed being outside until the service started.  It was a lovely day Sunday!
